Ambient Exposure

In our studio class we are working on Ambient Exposure. We were supposed to make environmental portraits. Capturing the subject in their usual day to day situation using props within that setting to tell about the person. We were allowed to use any available light, but not artificial light (flash). I found that I had a hard time with not cropping close to the subject, it sometimes lost the essential elements needed to tie the subject in with their environment. Here are the shots I got..

This last one of Jessica, was taken with 35mm film. It was printed in the darkroom on fiber paper and scanned into photoshop so I could put it on my blog.

Girl's Night!!!

Friday night I was invited to girl's night over at Chris' house! We started the evening watching a little T.V. and chatting. Later Laura, Erin, Chris and I played a great game of Phase 10! Guess who won!! (i did! i did!!!). It was such a great night, I hope we do it again soon!

I think Laura was laughing at me because I was the permanent skip person..

Look at my phase #6! Woohoo! Guess that explains why I was permaskip girl!

The Stricklands!

I had the pleasure of photographing the Strickland family last week. It was a very bitter cold day, but they did well! I can not wait to see their little one when he arrives! Here are a few from their day!

Snow days and gradient maps!!!

It snowed here in Greenville a last week so I headed out the door to take some snow pics.. I didn't get very far because it was cold and wet, and I didn't want my camera to get wet.. so. I stopped right at the front door and took some pictures of the bushes! While in class today I learned how to make different gradient maps in photoshop. I have had so much fun this afternoon working with different colors. Here is a shot I got with snow on the bushes, using a gradient map layer....

Yesterday I met up with some area photographers to work on some off camera flash. Thanks to Julie Mixon for setting everything up for us! It was great fun getting together with everyone and learning fun new things! My friends, Kimberlea, Tina and Jeremy did a wonderful job being our models! Here are some of the shots from the day!

Pisgah Covered Bridge

Recently I went on a photohunt to find pictures for my portfolio. I happened upon this bridge by chance. Lots of students in our photography department try and shoot this bridge each year, so I was told not to go there. But.. You know me! I couldn't resist! I love the lines of the beams in the ceiling, and floor! I will defiantly be back in the future to shoot here!

Something...

I have been working on a special project for a bit with someone very dear to me. While I can't tell you what that is because it's top secret, I can share with you a shot that came out of the project. I took this picture of my nephew over thanksgiving weekend. He was such a sport!

Photo Excursion Part 2

Yesterday was one of the last days to capture the fall colors before the leaves fall off the trees. I think I have made my decision! Fall is absolutely my favorite season! Spring comes in a very close second! These two pictures were taken at Lake Lucas.. Very close to Camp Carraway, in Asheboro.

Photo Excursion!

Driving around Asheboro was fun today! I started out a little late in the day, but got a few shots before the sun went down! Nothing like the fall weather to make a person want to take a drive in the country! I found this place out near Camp Carraway. I do plan to go back soon!

Sorry for the small picture in the other post. My computer recently crashed, along with it were all of my photoshop actions I made for resizing the blog images.. Still working on replacing them!

Grapes, grapes and more grapes!

Fall is always my favorite time of the year. Cool weather, change in color, grapes! My best friend Kim called me the other day and said, "guess what I did today?" I had no clue, and didn't have to wait long for a response! "I picked grapes!!!" Funny thing was the same day I went to the store and bought some before I ever knew that she was out picking them! I guess it's true great minds do think alike! If you have never tried them you should! Don't let the seeds in the middle hinder you! You can swallow them like Kim, or not.. like me! You don't know what you are missing, if you have never tried them!!!!!

Most Beautiful

Two weekends ago I went back to the mountains for a baby shower. On Sunday afternoon the weather was beautiful and I could not resist snagging Kim's mom Bendy for a good Sunday afternoon drive! We were in search of a place that I had previously been 'photohunting', but couldn't find the exact spot over again.. So this is the surprise shot I got in its place!

On the way home we stopped by Bendy's family cabin. I had never been inside before so she gave me a tour! It is as beautiful inside as it is outside! My favorite piece was the wood stove! Boy I would love to watch someone cook on that thing! Sunday's visit was the first time the light was bright enough for me to snag this shot! Thanks Bendy for a Wonderful weekend, and a fun Sunday afternoon drive!

Erin and Samba

Before I moved to Asheboro Erin Samba and I got together to do some fun pictures, just because we could. She and Samba are so cute together! Nothing better than man's best friend! (or in this case woman's best friend!)

Susan

This is Susan. We met up in Pittsboro yesterday to do some head shots. Susan has been a friend of the family for years. It was great to see her, even if it was for a short while.
